ParkLife cafe is a community of ideas that pulls together, in a strange partnership of kindness to others, who together want to make things the very best they can be, this starts with talking and doing. Attention Birmingham residents!Brace yourselves, because it seems like the city council has rolled the dice and declared 'all bets are off' on what services might face the chopping block. You know it's serious when they're playing bankruptcy bingo! Now, when this sort of thing usually happens, it's like the 'stop' button on a game of grant roulette - suddenly, vital local services find themselves stuck in a frustrating pause mode. It takes a whole orchestra of effort, not to mention a fair amount of time and treasure, to get these services back up and running. But hold onto your teacups because here's where ParkLife flips the script! There are no pickled noodles here! We're like the rebels of the community world; we've never been fans of grant applications they are great, but not always reliable, time consuming and can cause programs to STOP. Nope, not us we try and do things differently! We proudly display 'No Grants Applied For' badge like a community superhero emblem. It's a testament to the power of community support and involvement, the secret sauce that keeps our ParkLife community café thriving and growing. So while Birmingham might be in for a wild ride, rest assured that ParkLife isn't folding its cards anytime soon. We've got community spirit in spades, and that's the winning hand we're playing! "Being part of this uplifting environment, where positivity outshines negativity, fills us all with immense pride." Everything we do is community minded The goal for ParkLife is to create a self funding community space for the community. The free projects and activities are funded by nice people that volunteer their time, some donation money, others help us organise events and activities. What did we learnt from the last community outreach sessions Update on the first session from PerC
In matters of survival, we've stumbled upon an intriguing titbit of wisdom, if perchance, you're contemplating the unfortunate act of having a stroke, why not consider relocating to Brent? It seems statistically that your odds of emerging from such a predicament with your chin held high are significantly improved there. But lo and behold, dreams in this world do indeed take flight! Enter the marvellous Jenny, a beacon of hope in our realm, who graced ParkLife with her presence to deliver the inaugural session from none other than the illustrious Imperial College London. Her dream? To forge a brighter path for stroke services in our dear Harrow. This extraordinary dame, having soaked up the electrifying ParkLife ambiance, embarked on a noble quest to turn her dream into a shared reality. Now, dear comrades, she stands as an integral part of a formidable team, wielding a treasure chest of funds vast enough to set up a haven of support for stroke survivors in Harrow, but you will need to consider helping this gallant plan as residents. We do hope, with all our might, that none among us ever need such a service or endure the tedious wait of few long months for its arrival. However, rest assured, dear hearts, the wheels of progress have been set in motion, and Jenny and her peeps are leading the charge at an astonishing pace. Stay tuned, for soon we shall unveil more details on our project pages! (And yes, you read that correctly - it's none other than the Imperial College London, that veritable titan of medical wisdom, gracing our very own Harrow Weald.) With the utmost mirth and a hint of pomp. Next Imperial College session is 28th September Read here about the subject being delivered and more details of the session lead. You are invited. Health inequalities session update
Lets build a world where health equity is a reality for every individual. Together, we can make a lasting impact and create a future where health disparities are a thing of the past. Join us in the fight for a healthier, fairer, and more inclusive society! In our cosy corner of ParkLife, we've always been passionate enthusiasts of humanity in all its glorious forms - people of every stripe, from the tallest to the tiniest, the most colourful to the more muted, and hailing from the far corners of this fair land. It's an absolute joy to be in the company of such a kaleidoscope of beautiful souls. But then, along came our marvellous session leaders, who, in their wisdom, managed to distill down a profound revelation - beneath all our unique outer shells, we are, in fact, astonishingly similar. It's a real head-scratcher, isn't it? Let's not brush over the undeniable statistical quirks of our fair isle. You see, if you happen to sport a different hue, hail from a distinct cultural background, or have a postcode that isn't quite in the mainstream, you're statistically more likely to endure a few extra bumps in the road. Why, you ask? Well, it turns out, there are a couple of rather straightforward reasons: Communication Conundrums:For some, the challenge lies in communication skills or, dare we say, the perplexing labyrinth of knowing where to seek assistance. The Silent Stiff Upper Lip:Now, we Brits do have a grand tradition of a good old moan and groan when things go awry. Yet, it seems our friends from certain regional nooks have taken a different path, opting to keep mum about their difficulties accessing services. Now, here's the crux of the biscuitThe UK is a land of organisations piled upon organisations, like a never-ending layer cake. It's a tad bewildering, akin to asking for a zucchini when everyone else is holding courgettes. You see, complaining is a piece of cake, so long as you're moaning to the right organisation. When we all have a natter, the fog lifts, and we discover how to mend these little hiccups. You might think your doctor's surgery is the bee's knees, while your neighbour might beg to differ. But one thing's for sure, every doctor is a true-blue helper. And here's a juicy titbit - every doctor's surgery in the land has a Patients Association. They're like the magic beans that collect our thoughts and partner up with the docs to make things even peachier. So, don't let those skewed stats and wobbly lines fool you, folks. It's not about being different; it's about the good ol' art of accessing the services you require and if you are having difficulty head over to the chair of your local doctors surgery. Mark your calendars HicP Session 2 is on the way Health Inequalities in the Community, Session 2, on the 14th of September, where all are warmly welcomed! Finally! Now, you might wonder why we're so excited. Well, hold onto your hats, because these sessions were nothing short of a roaring success! The session leads were grinning from ear to ear, and the recipients? Well, let's just say they were doing a happy dance of their own. But wait, there's more! We've got a whole slew of these sessions lined up over the coming year. Picture this: a delightful smorgasbord of events, hand-picked to tickle your brain cells and nurture your well-being. We've got informative talks, eye-opening educational sessions, medical insights that'll leave you in awe, and a sprinkling of wellness wisdom, all dished out by bona fide professionals in their respective fields. But here's where it gets really exciting - these pros hail from a constellation of organisations, all coming together to lend a hand in helping our beloved community tackle life's unexpected curveballs. Whether it's a sly slider or a wicked knuckleball, we've got you covered. And, of course, no ParkLife event is complete without a chance for you to dive in and get involved. So, roll up those sleeves, put on your thinking caps, and join us on this remarkable journey of discovery and empowerment.
